Our Story

Kin-Inspired Trust emerged from a decade-long journey of collective learning, beginning with a small group of families and community members who came together to explore how young people’s potential could be nurtured through learning, service, and community connection. Over time, this journey has expanded into a wider community effort.

Through this journey, we have been learning how to create spaces where children, junior youth, youth, families, and people from all backgrounds can come together, build meaningful relationships, develop their abilities, and contribute to the wellbeing of their communities.

The name Kin-Inspired reflects the spirit of this journey. “Kin” represents kinship — the connections of care, friendship, and belonging that develop when people learn and serve alongside one another. It expresses the belief that communities can grow stronger when people recognise their shared humanity and support each other’s growth.

“Inspired” reflects the role of inspired education at the heart of the Trust’s programmes. Guided by principles from the Bahá’í Faith, particularly the oneness of humanity, the Trust recognises the inherent dignity and potential of every individual. Drawing on the Ruhi Institute materials, participants engage in a process of learning, reflection, and service that supports them to develop capacities, strengthen relationships, and contribute to the betterment of society.

At the heart of Kin-Inspired Trust is the belief that young people are not only the future of their communities, but active participants in shaping them today. Through inspired education and a culture of service, we support children, junior youth, and youth to develop their capacities, cultivate their strengths, and apply their talents towards the betterment of their communities and humanity. In doing so, young people are encouraged to contribute to the development of connected, caring, and resilient neighbourhoods.

The One World School Holiday Programme in 2025 was one expression of this ongoing learning journey, bringing together young people and families from across Dunedin to build friendships, develop capabilities, and explore how they can contribute to the flourishing of their communities.

The Kin-Inspired Trust was incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 on 22 October 2025, formalising its commitment to learning, service, and community building. Kin-Inspired is based in Dunedin, New Zealand.
